Review: Leatherbeaten ‘Spanker’ paddle
To start this review off, I should probably state that I am a Canadian, and it always makes me happy to find wonderful products made by my fellow Canuks. Leatherbeaten is an Ontario based company that specializes in leather work and inventive ways to make the submissive in your life whimper and yelp. Be sure to check out their Penitent Series as well as their gorgeous line of floggers
The Spanker paddle measures 8 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide, with the handle measuring 5 inches long and about 1 1/4 inches wide. The paddle itself is made of two pieces of 1/8th inch harness leather which have been sewn together with the ‘raw’ sides facing each other on the inside. The stitching is heavy duty thread, and I have not had any issues with it coming lose or starting to fray. Because it is a hand sewn product, there was a small area when the lines of stitches wasn’t perfectly straight, but it’s such a small thing that it doesn’t bother me (or my OCD!), or effect the 
aesthetics and overall use of the toy. The handle has been reinforced with metal that protrudes a little bit past the handle for extra stabilization, because the last thing you want is a floppy paddle when you’re beating someone! I haven’t noticed the metal in the paddle itself during use, and it hasn’t bothered any of the play partners I’ve used this toy with either.
In use, this is a great toy. It produces wonderfully ‘thuddy’ sensations on your ass, with occasional bits of sting if you are struck on more sensitive areas (pussy, inner thighs, breasts). Even from a thorough beating, I never have had welts come up with this paddle, although my ass has been several brilliant shades of red and throwing off lots of heat. You would have to work hard at it or just mark up easily to leave bruises with this paddle. I would rate the intensity of this paddle as a 5 out of 10 when I am being struck with it as hard as my partner can swing it. Personally, I enjoy using the Spanker either after warming my partner up with my bare hands, or starting out using it lightly and slowly ramping up the intensity of my blows til they are nicely red and squirming.
To take care of your paddle, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth after use to remove and sweat/bodily fluids from the leather and allow it to dry thoroughly before storage. I have also cleaned my Leatherbeaten paddles with Saddle Soap on occasion for a more thorough cleaning without it doing them any harm that I have noticed. Disclaimer: Your mileage may vary! Please don’t come yell at me if Saddle Soap turns your leather green or makes your submissive’s butt fall off or something equally tragic. What works for me may not work for you or your toys, and while I am fairly well informed in leather care, I am not an expert. The Spanker paddle comes with a small hole in the end of the handle with a small loop for hanging it when not in use, but it can also be stored flat or in a toy bag. I would recommend keeping it away from sharper toys, as the finish on the leather can become scratched up or dented.
I purchased this paddle, as well as the ‘Imp’ through Leatherbeaten’s website, and the customer service was excellent. My first choice of colours for my Imp paddle wasn’t available, and the staff apologized and informed me of my other choices, and their replies to my emails were always quick and courteous. I was informed when my toys shipped, and was given a tracking number, as well as being thanked repeatedly for my purchase. Great customer service always equals me wanting to become a repeat customer!
I give this paddle 5 paws up out of 5! I know it’s going to be a well loved part of my toy bag for many years to come.

Review: Blossom Organics Pleasure Arousal Gel
I’ve never used an arousal gel before, but have heard great things about them, so when Babeland offered me a change to review Blossom Organics Pleasure Arousal Gel , I jumped at the chance! As an unexpected bonus, this gel is organic, which makes my inner hippie very happy.
The ingredient list is:
Organic aloe barbadensis leaf extract, Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sorbitol, Arginine, Niacin (vitamin B3), Organic plant oils of rosa canina (rose hip) & Oenothera biennis (evening primrose), Ethylhexylglycerin, Organic mentha piperita (peppermint) essential oil, Organic extracts of paeonia albiflora (peony) root & Passiflora incarnata flower.
The list of ingredients almost reads like the ingredients to a nice cup of herbal tea, and I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten or drank most of them at some point! A word of caution, though. If you have genital herpes, arginine has been linked to potiential increased outbreaks. The gel also contains glycerin which can cause yeast infections. I have had no issues with the product and yeast infections but I am not prone to them, and I did try to keep from getting the gel inside me.
The bottle is classy looking, and fairly discreet. It is made of frosted plastic, with a white plastic lid, and has a pump top, which I love. It’s 3 3/4 inches tall and 1 1/4 inches in diameter, and holds 0.75 ounces. The small size is perfect for tucking into a purse or toiletry bag, and wouldn’t look out of place beside a lipstick tube and some eye cream. The only give away to it being at all sex related is the word ‘arousal’ in the sticker. It may seem like it’s a small amount of product, but I’ve been using mine a lot the past three weeks and have barely made a dent it the bottle!
The arousal gel does exactly what I had hoped it would. When I first apply it to my clit (or a bit on my inner labia if I feel like spreading the tingles out), it takes a few seconds for a reaction to occur. There’s a feeling of warmth, then coolness, then very faint tingling. The first time I tried the gel, I was scientific and didn’t do anything but apply it, put my panties back on, and go back to editing some pics to see how things felt. That’s right, I didn’t masturbate FOR SCIENCE! (Something I’m sure you never thought you’d hear on this blog!) After the tingling started, I noticed that I started getting wet. And not just ‘Ooh, a cute boy walked by ‘ way, either. My panties were damp all the way through! Now, admittedly, I’m pretty easy to get turned on, but usually it takes something a bit more stimulating than some goo and picture editing. The tingly sensation lasted for a good 10 minutes or so, at which point I declared the experiment over and grabbed one of my favourite toys. See the suffering I endure for the sake of a good review? 10 minutes! Of not masturbating! When I really really wanted to! It may have taken me less time than normal to come, I’m not entirely sure, to be honest. I will say that is was a very intense orgasm though, and so were the next two or three I had. WIN!
For a ‘gel’ this does have a very thin consistency. It is thicker than water and Astroglide, but nowhere near as thick as my Sliquid Sassy. I’d say it’s really close to Jello that is juuuust starting to set. If you’re not careful about how you apply it, the gel can slip off your fingers before you manage to get close to your clit. It is also a slightly brownish colour, due to the natural ingredients, which some people might find off putting. Luckily, the colour and ingredients will not stain clothes or bedding. (I tested this out on cotton sheets and panties, as well as a silk coverlet. Ooops.)
The arousal gel, does have a bit of an aftertaste to it. It’s a bitter chamomile-like flavour, and definitely isn’t something I want to deal up with in order to give oral to someone. Instead, I’d suggest using it after oral, or before intercourse, provided you aren’t planning on having oral sex afterward. I haven’t noticed it leaving any residue on me afterwards, and a simple wipe with a wet cloth should be enough to remove any remaining traces.
